Local heritage book of Kohlstetten

The village of Kohlstetten with approx. 800 inhabitants (2007) is now a district of Engstingen and is located on the edge of the Swabian Jura about 15 km south-southeast of Reutlingen.

“Kohlstetten was first mentioned in documents in 1161 as Cholstetten. It was originally owned by the Counts of Achalm, fell to the Counts of Urach in 1230 and to Württemberg in 1265. The monasteries Offenhausen and Chur were wealthy here. Kohlstetten initially belonged to the Urach office / Oberamt and from 1808 to the Oberamt Münsingen. With its dissolution, the district of Reutlingen came in 1973."

A church is also mentioned in 1161. It stands in the same place as today's Marienkirche. The special thing about the Kohlstetter cemetery is that all graves look at the altar. Parts of the cemetery wall could also date from this period.

For a long time Kleingstingen belonged to the Kohlstetter parish as a branch. This is precisely why many connections have been established between the Kohlstetter and Kleingstinger families.

In 1534, Duke Ulrich also carried out the Reformation in Kohlstetten. Unfortunately, many church records were destroyed in the Thirty Years' War.

The following documents were evaluated:

  • Baptism register (Volume 1: 1640 - 1754, Volume 2: 1808 - 1866, Volume 3: 1866 - 1925)
  • Confirmand Register (Volume 7: 1737 - 1770, Volume 8: 1771 - 1882)
  • Othergister (Volume 1: 1669 - 1808, Volume 4: 1809 - 1890)
  • Family Register (Volume 9 1808 - 1856, Volume 10: 1856 - 1908)
  • Death Register (Volume 1: 1657 - 1808, Volume 5: 1808 - 1871, Volume 6: 1872 - 1977)
  • 850 years of Kohlstetten - published in 2011 by the municipality of Engstingen
  • Private Documents
